June 2014

Dear MBA Families,

It doesn’t seem possible that it is June and we are approaching the end of another school year. It has been an outstanding year. The many accomplishments of our staff and students have been inspiring and invigorating. Your children have continually brought wonderful ideas and inspiring activities to me throughout the year. They have had a tremendous impact on MBA, Somers, and the larger world community. It has been my great honor to be their principal.

To all parents of eighth grade students, we would like to wish you and your child the best of luck and a successful high school career. It has been a pleasure working with you and having your children with us throughout the year. Thank you to all our parent volunteers for their help during the year. We hope to see all our grade 8 families at class night on June 19th.

At this time, I need to let you know that I will be leaving Somers District at the close of June. My time here with your children, the staff, and you has been wonderful and I have so many fond memories of working with our families and children. The community that we have built together will continue to be strong and vital. Remember how important your voice is and how much I have appreciated it over the years. The talent and wisdom that you so openly share is what contributes to an outstanding school. With our many awards such as state semifinalist CT Teacher of the Year, CAS exemplary Climate Award, and a CT State Department School of Distinction (top 7% of the top 15%), it has been an exciting and rewarding last year. I know you already know how phenomenal our staff is, but I want to take this time to recognize each and every one of them. If you haven’t already done so, please let them know how much you appreciate them as well before the end of school. They work long and tireless hours in order to provide an outstanding education to your children and they are of the highest professional caliber. Thank you again for your support throughout my seven years in Somers.

Report Cards
Report Cards will be mailed home the last week of June. If you do not receive a report card, your child has either failed to return a library book or a textbook. Please look for any MBA property to avoid this situation. If the materials cannot be found, please bring the amount of the replacement to the school.

Summer Reading
Required Summer Reading: Two books per grade are required for each student. A separate list and worksheets will be sent home with students the last week of school. Please encourage your child to begin reading early. For more information, check our link on the school’s web page: 2014 Summer Reading List. Somers Public Library also has the list of books.

Have a relaxing and enjoyable summer!
