Academics

MBA operates on a 6 day rotating schedule with core academics including Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and World Languages taught on a quarterly basis.

Other unique components of the schedule consist of the following:
  • Double period of Language Arts (84 minutes).
  • Unified Arts program (Art, Technology, and Life Skills) on a trimester basis.
  • Four-minute break-time (10:00 a.m.-10:04 a.m. each day) for students to have a snack.
  • World Language 6th Grade: This year is designed as a year of exploring French and Spanish language and culture. Students will encounter the languages through a variety of methods and will be introduced to cultural differences around the world. This course meets every other day of the 6-day rotation with one semester being devoted to each of the languages.
  • World Language 7th Grade: The Level A World Language program, offered in French or Spanish, is the first of two sequential courses in which students will complete the equivalent of the high school level one program. Throughout the year, students will encounter the language through a variety of methods and will be introduced to cultural differences around the world. This course meets every day of the 6-day rotation. Students who successfully complete the Level A course (with an average of a C- or better) will continue on to take the Level B course in 8th grade.
  • World Language 8th Grade: The Level B World Language program is the second of two sequential courses in which students will complete the equivalent of the high school level one program. Throughout the year, students will encounter the language through a variety of methods and will be introduced to cultural differences around the world. This course meets every day of the 6-day rotation. Students who successfully complete the Level B course (with an average of a C- or better) will continue on to take French 2 or Spanish 2 in 9th grade.
  • Three High School Level Classes: French 1 or Spanish 1, and Algebra 1.
  • Band and Chorus (gr. 6); Band and Chorus (gr. 7 & 8) meets everyday(elective)
  • Team Planning Time for Teachers (42 min. per day).
  • Homeroom period at the beginning and end of the school day.
  • Intervention Reading & Math tutoring offered as needed.
  • Special Education teachers loop with their students over the course of three years.
