November 2009

November is the most fragmented month of the school year at MBA.  Please be aware of the school calendar with three early release days, two holidays and two parent conference days.

Parent Conferences

Parent conferences are being held on Tuesday, November 10th and Thursday, November 12th from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  We have worked hard to assure that all parents have the opportunity to meet with a teacher representative from each grade.  Conference dates were mailed home to each parent.  It is very important that all conference forms be returned.  Please indicate whether you are able to attend.  Some parents may request a time or date change.  This cannot be done until we receive responses from everyone.

Conference days are early release days for students with dismissal at 11:35 a.m. (Nov. 10 and 12).

Report Cards

The first marking period ends Wednesday, November 4th.  Report cards will be sent home on Monday, November 9th with your child.  A parent signature is required at the bottom of the report card and students are required to return the signed portion to their homeroom teachers.

ASD NEWS

There was a school wide assembly on Monday, November 2nd at 10:10 a.m. to introduce and hear speeches from students who wish to be elected as an ASD (Association of Student Democracy) officer.  Student elections will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd during homeroom.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be held Friday, November 20th.   Please return old pictures on retake day.

PTA Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair that is supported by the PTA will be open for parents during parent conference nights and during each day for students.  Volunteers needed!  Please contact Cathy Collins at 749-5575 if you can help.

Grade 6 Social

The Grade 6 Social will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Intramural:  Fitness Club

The MBA Fitness Club is open to all students.  Students will use cross-country training methods, drills, relays and games to improve their running endurance, speed, flexibility, coordination, quickness and agility.  All participants must have running sneakers and bring proper clothing to run both inside and outside.  Fitness Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The dates are November 3, 5, 17, 19, 24 and December 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22.  No physical exam is required, however, all students need parent permission and a ride home promptly at 3:30 p.m.  Mr. McCarthy is the advisor.

Math Olympiad Club

The Math Olympiad Club started October 27th from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. in room 203.   Mrs. Karen Hocking will serve as advisor.  We encourage students to participate; the contests are challenging and fun.  Meetings will be held every Tuesday.

Chess Club

The Chess Club started October 1st from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. in room 306.  Mr. Gieras is the advisor.  Meetings will be held every other Thursday.  The dates are:  November 5, 19, December 3, 17, January 7, 21, February 4, 25, March 11, 25, April 8, 29 and May 13, 27.

SAVE Club

On Saturday, November 21st, and Sunday, November 22nd, SAVE will be collecting food for Enfield Loaves and Fishes at SHAW’s Supermarket.  On Tuesday, November 24th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., help prepare the meal and decorate for Thanksgiving dinner at Enfield Loaves & Fishes in Enfield.  Directions will be given out prior to the dates.  If you have any questions, please call Karyn O’Donnell at 749-7043.
