Somers High School Principal presents the 2017 CAS-CIAC Scholar Athlete Awards to Ava Roche and Tim Gamble at the 43rd Annual Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Somers Girls T&F team for winning the Small School Division of the Journal Inquirer Invitational meet held at Manchester High Scool on May 20th. The team win was Somers first in 36 years of competing in the JI Invitational. Amanda Kaufman led the Spartans by placing 2nd in the 100 and 300 hurdles and 5th in the high jump. For her overall performance, Amanda was voted "Best in Track" for the Small School Division. Kylie Raymond finished 2nd in the 3200 and 6th in the 1600, while Madison Yurgaitis placed 6th in the long jump and Emily Renzoni placed 8th in the discus. The boys placed 3rd in the Small School Division led by Broderick Rheault, who won the discus throw and placed 2nd on the javelin. Jayme Palazzo placed 8th in the 1600 and Hunter Bowers was 3rd in the long jump. Amanda Kaufman, Kylie Raymond, and Broderick Rheault were named to the "All Area Team".

 

GREATER HARTFORD OPEN: The Somers Girl T&F team for finishing 5th in the Small School Division of the Greater Hartford Open Invitational held at Simsbury High School on May 13th. Girls team highlights included Amanda Kaufman finishing 1st in the 300 hurdles and 4th in the 100 hurdles, Lauren Eastwood finished 5th and Madison Yurgaitis finishing 14th in the high jump, and Kylie Raymond finishing 6th in the 3200. On the boys side, Ben Constant finished 11th ion the high jump, Broderick Rheault finished 12th in javelin throw, Hunter Bowers 12th in the long jump, and Michael Dalessio finished 15th in the pole vault.

CONGRATULATIONS to our boys lacrosse team and coaching staff for finishing undefeated at 8-0 in league play and winning the 2017 NCCC Championship for the 2nd year in a row. Currently ranked #1 in Class S state rankings, the Spartans will also enter the NCCC playoffs as the number one seed, earning a bye to the league tournament finals being held on Thursday, May 25th at Granby High School.

 

 


 

CONGRATULATIONS to Senior Christian Paley in scoring his 400th career point in Somers 12-10 victory at Hall High School (center above with fellow seniors Dominic Giachello, Michael Munson, Joseph Mongillo, and Jacob Phillips). Christian is one of (3) Connecticut high school lacrosse players and (71 overall nationwide) to score over 400 points in their high school career. Christian Paley was also closen the CPTV Student-Athlete of the Week of April 17th: Christian is the 2nd CT HS student athlete to win this award (among only 3 other CT HS athletes to have won this award twice).

 

                                                                 


SPRING SPORTS REGISTRATION IS CLOSED!!!


SHS Sports is excited to launch our new online portal for sports registration. Parents/Guardians should complete the online forms with the student-athlete. Families will need to create a new account. Once you are signed in, you will be able to register for a sport and pay online during. Pay-for-play payments (check or cash) are also accepted during pre-season tryouts and should be forwarded to the coach or athletic manager.

Spring sports will comprise of boy's JV and varsity lacrosse; girl's JV and varsity lacrosse; boy's JV and varsity baseball; girl's JV and varsity softball; boy's and girl's track & field, boy's golf, and boy's co-op tennis with Enfield High School. All game schedules are available on www.casciac.org and will be posted weekly on the high school sports website once the official season begins. Spring sports tryout schedules will be posted during the first few days of practices, after which coaches will communicate team practice schedules with their respective student athletes.
