Hi, my name is Lauren and I am very excited about to going to Alaska this coming February! This trip will be an incredible experience for me to learn many new things. I am looking forward to learning about global warming, International Polar Year, and also working with experienced and well-known scientists. It will be interesting to see the comparisons and contrast between Somers, Connecticut and Fairbanks, Alaska including the temperature, weather conditions, and the citizens who live there. We will be working with Dr. Martin Jeffries as well as other scientists on the ALISON (Alaska Lake Ice and Snow Observatory Network) project, a project related to global warming in which students and teachers conduct scientific experiments. By learning what other people’s views are on environmental issues, we can inform others what to do to help our environment. This Alaska Research Challenge is surely a once in a lifetime opportunity that I will never forget! |
