Sexual Harassment

In compliance with regulations implementing Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1973, and applicable state laws, the  Somers Board of Education prohibits discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religious creed, age, marital status, military or veteran status, national origin, sex, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or past or present physical or mental disability.

Sexual Harassment is illegal. It is prohibited by The Connecticut Discrimination Employment Practices Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Somers Board of Education Policy. Sexual harassment means: “any unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors or any conduct of a sexual nature when: 

Individuals who engage in acts of sexual harassment may be subject to civil and criminal penalties.

Grievance procedures are available which provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging violations of Title IX. 

These procedures are available to all students and employees in the Somers Public School System.
